Les mises en scène de Bob Wilson font leur miel des ouvrages à la dramaturgie intense et complexe. Avec sa direction d’acteurs au ralenti et ses décors minimalistes, sa version du Ring, donnée au Théâtre du Châtelet, avait délivré une poésie insoupçonnée. L’Opéra de Paris accueille donc avec bonheur la reprise de la production wilsonienne de La Femme sans ombre. Cet opéra grandiose aux allures de fable magique témoigne de l’une des plus passionnantes alliances entre un librettiste et un compositeur : Hugo von Hoffmanstahl et Richard Strauss. A la Bastille, le casting s’avère prometteur, avec le ténor Jon Villars (en Empereur) et le baryton-basse Franz Hawlata (en Barak). Quant à la direction musicale, elle est confiée au chef autrichien Gustav Kuhn, qui connaît son Richard Strauss sur le bout des doigts.
