L’idée d’un festival consacré à la guitare a germé, l’an dernier, après l’invitation de Jorge Caballero à La Grange à Musique, lieu insolite animé par le pianiste Cyril Huvé (où il organise depuis plusieurs années le beau festival Pentecôte en Berry). Pour cette première édition, les deux musiciens, qui se partagent la direction artistique du festival, ont tenu à rendre hommage à la personnalité de Julian Bream, un artiste qui a toujours cherché à embrasser le répertoire le plus large, du baroque à la création musicale contemporaine. On retrouve ainsi parmi les artistes invités cette année aussi bien le luthiste Nigel North que Michael Lorimer, l’un des grands transcripteurs pour son instrument (on lui doit notamment une version pour guitare des Suites pour violoncelle de Bach). Le grand guitariste américain David Tenenbaum jouera des pièces de Hans Werner Henze (1926-2012), l’un des compositeurs du 20e siècle qui a le mieux écrit pour l’instrument, et la Grecque Antigoni Goni interprétera notamment des pages de Mikis Theodorakis. Tous les artistes invités donneront des master-classes publiques et participeront au jury du concours, dont les épreuves sont elles aussi ouvertes au public.
