Loin du temps où l’on se demandait comment arrêter de perdre sa vie à la gagner, on est désormais convaincu qu’il faut travailler plus pour gagner plus, que le travail est une chance ou une récompense, et que la valeur des individus se mesure à leur capacité à être asservis. Du vieux débat entre les différentes définitions du travail (torture ou réalisation de soi, tâche dévolue aux esclaves ou œuvre libérale d’épanouissement), ressurgissent des interrogations dont la société contemporaine s’essaie à dissimuler les enjeux, pour convaincre les exploités que toute retraite est une défaite… Or, comme l’indique l’Avantage du doute en sous-titre de sa nouvelle création, « il y a une légende, à Bornéo, qui dit que les orangs-outans savent parler mais qu’ils se taisent pour ne pas avoir à travailler » : le théâtre s’empare donc des questions qu’on veut taire !
De l’intime au politique
Le projet de ce spectacle « n’est pas d’informer ou de rendre compte d’une réalité sociologique ». Ce qui intéresse les membres du collectif L’Avantage du doute, qui font ensemble œuvre de recherche documentaire, de dramaturgie, d’écriture et de mise en scène, « c’est le débordement du monde du travail dans la sphère privée », considérant que l’intime est le moyen par lequel « le politique redevient audible ». On assiste à une séance de « QQOQCCP », une autre « d’auto-cassage de gueule » ; il est question d’une jeune femme amoureuse d’un vigile de supermarché, de comédiens à la retraite, d’agence d’intérim… Toutes les scènes composant le spectacle constituent les touches du tableau de notre rapport au travail et des ravages que provoque la manière dont la société contemporaine se le représente. Le tout, avec humour, même si les situations abordées sont graves ou tragiques, « parce que le rire libère de la peur et soude ceux qui rient ensemble ».
