Couches à changer, nez à moucher, carreaux de la cuisine à astiquer : une femme est là, seule, face au public. Entre balai et pâte à tarte, elle soliloque et raconte sa culpabilité. Que s’est-il passé pour que la voisine, Caroline, mère de cinq petits, meure trois semaines après l’accouchement du dernier ? Dans sa cuisine, la femme s’interroge : quel geste a manqué dans l’interminable chorégraphie du quotidien pour que l’irréparable s’accomplisse ? « Il m’est arrivé. Rarement mais tout de même quelques fois. Il m’est arrivé de faire semblant que personne n’avait frappé. Il m’est arrivé de ne pas bouger. » Au plateau, deux personnages : la femme qui pétrit le pain de son remords et l’esprit de Caroline, interprété par une comédienne-musicienne qui crée en direct la mélodie des émotions. Sobre et pudique, la mise en scène d’Yves Chenevoy met en scène cette tragédie du banal avec le respect dû à la noblesse des petites gens.
