Ni metteur en scène, ni écrivain, ni plasticien, ni cinéaste, parce que tout à la fois, Jan Lauwers chahute sans cesse les lignes de démarcation et fabrique un théâtre où états de corps, chants, textes et objets trament ensemble le fil d’un récit à jamais irrésolu. Après La Chambre d’Isabella (2004), qui traversait à grandes enjambées le chaos du 20ème siècle, après Le bazar du homard (2006) qui dessinait l’image chaotique d’un futur fantasque entre rêve et cauchemar, il achève son triptyque sur la condition humaine avec La Maison des cerfs (2009). Née de la mort de Kerem, journaliste tué au Kosovo et frère d’une des danseuses de la Needcompany, cette pièce superpose le vécu de la troupe et la violence du monde en guerre en un conte étrange, tragique et fantasmatique, porté par des interprètes d’exception. Dommage que le propos s’y dilue trop souvent en bien bavardes lamentations…
