Luigi, c’est le père. L’humeur toujours un peu débraillée, il traîne une vieille fatigue qui bougonne en cinglantes semonces ou piquants soupirs lancés au ronronnement opiniâtre des jours grisâtres. Marta, la sœur aînée, celle qui cuisine, brique, astique… attend le temps d’un ailleurs à venir. Maria, elle, cherche l’amour, le grand, comme dans les films, mâchonne ses désirs en secret et enchaîne les avortements. Gianni enfin, le fils cadet, baguenaude entre enfance et adolescence, dialectise souvent à tort et la ramène de travers. Voilà la famille M. Depuis que la mère a avalé sa dépression en absorbant d’un coup sec une boîte de cachets, ces quatre-là esquivent le deuil et l’enfouissent en silence dans les trous du quotidien. Il y a aussi Fulvio et Fabrizio, deux copains en mal d’occupations qui s’écorchent le cœur à force de zoner, s’affairent entre bidouillages de motos, peines d’amour et virées de bagnole en rase campagne. C’est le médecin du coin qui fait les présentations en voix off. Lui, il soigne surtout les maux de têtes de ces êtres coincés entre l’automne et l’hiver, en bordure des routes nationales qui pourraient mener loin de leur vie maussade.
Une langue acérée
Fausto Paravidino dissout à l’acide caustique la cire entre les mots qui d’habitude colmate et assouplit les rapports humains. Reste une langue acérée, drôle, qui dénude les rapports de pouvoir, les fêlures intimes et les rageuses détresses. L’auteur et metteur en scène italien mène entre chronique sociale fêlée et vaudeville frelaté, tressant phases grinçantes et tendres. Dans un décor astucieux, qui parfois trouble les frontières entre l’intérieur domestique étriqué et l’environnement extérieur paumé au milieu d’une terre désolée, les jeunes recrues de la Comédie française et Christian Blanc libèrent toute la vitalité crue du texte et l’humanité tragiquement comique de cette famille ordinaire.
