Dure et violente parce que fragile et belle : telle est la vie selon Pippo Delbono qui tâche de faire un théâtre qui soit adéquat à cette paradoxale définition. « Je crois de plus en plus que le théâtre, dans un moment où tout va vers la fausseté, vers la fiction, vers le pouvoir, devient un lieu de personnes. Spectateurs et acteurs sont sur le même niveau : une rencontre entre des êtres humains. Tout le reste, je crois, est aujourd’hui inutile. » Utiles et nécessaires alors peut-être, les photos prises par Pippo Delbono pendant le spectacle et qui constituent comme un hommage rendu aux spectateurs ainsi fixés comme témoins de ce qu’ils voient, sous la double contrainte de la mémoire et de la responsabilité, donc de la dignité. Aucun de ceux qui sont ainsi photographiés ne pourra dire qu’il n’a pas vu chaque ouvrier ouvrir le casier anticipant son cercueil, qu’il n’a pas vu les hommes changés en chiens par notre société bestiale et défailli d’horreur en les entendant aboyer, qu’il n’a pas vu la fragilité de Gianluca Ballaré éperdu sur les bords du plateau comme l’innocence oubliée de ce siècle.
La cruauté insupportable jusqu’au spasme de l’incandescence
Les images de ce spectacle s’impriment dans l’esprit et y restent même bien longtemps après les avoir vues. Des images terrifiantes parce que d’abord insensées et dont la force suggestive explose presque après coup, comme si on ne pouvait pas à la fois voir et penser le scandale. Pippo Delbono est ici à la hauteur de ce qu’il dénonce, titan contre l’ordre tyrannique d’un Occident qui tétanise les esprits à force de justement les assaillir d’images. Le Mensonge s’enracine dans un réel, celui de la mort de sept ouvriers calcinés par le brasier industriel de l’usine ThyssenKrupp, que viennent éclairer la fiction, les références artistiques, les propres mensonges et les propres omissions avouées de l’auteur. « Je demande aux gens de faire des efforts pour tâcher d’être plus lucides. » dit Pippo Delbono qui, en toute conscience et en toute colère, joue de l’inquiétude, du déséquilibre, de l’inconfort et de la violence. Le créateur italien continue, dans cette œuvre comme dans les précédentes, d’exploser les carcans traditionnels du théâtre en explorant toutes les formes d’expressions scéniques, gestuelles et vocales et en faisant des corps des acteurs et du sien les instruments et les creusets de toutes les excentricités hors normes grâce auxquelles son art trouve son sens, l’originalité de sa poésie, son pouvoir de révolte et, envers, malgré et contre tout, son indéfectible philanthropie.
