« Cette pièce est pour moi la traduction d’un rêve, explique l’auteur Florian Zeller. Dans un premier temps l’image n’était pas précise : il y avait cette mère à qui on reprochait de trop aimer son fils. Aimer trop ? Pour elle, cela ne veut rien dire. On aime ou on n’aime pas. Puis les choses sont devenues plus nettes : elle s’appelait Anne, elle habitait dans une maison vide, et elle attendait un appel de ce fils qui ne venait pas. C’était quelques jours avant la fête des mères, mais personne ne semblait l’avoir remarqué. On ne pensait plus à elle. Elle était oubliée… » Pour incarner cette histoire de relations mère/fils, le metteur en scène Marcial Di Fonzo Bo a fait appel à Catherine Hiegel, Clément Sibony, Jean-Yves Chatelais et Olivia Bonamy. Des comédiens qui s’empareront d’une pièce conçue, au-delà du thème de l’ingratitude des fils, comme une « farce noire » au sein de laquelle un personnage de mère décide de « se battre contre ses fantômes avec férocité et mauvaise foi ».
