Certains jours, l’acide de la vie brûle si fort dans les veines qu’il dissout l’espoir en poison noir et crame toutes les pudeurs, toutes les frayeurs. L’épais brouillard d’illusions se déchire, la réalité se dévoile, si médiocre, si étriquée, si douloureusement banale, alors qu’au dessus, l’infini palpite, inaccessible aux ailes limées par le temps. Ne reste alors qu’à laisser éclater la rage impuissante qui mord à la gorge, pour qu’elle n’implose pas dans la poitrine. Qu’à en finir peut-être. Konstantin aimait Nina, jeunesse en quête de gloire pailletée. Il rêvait d’art, rêvait d’amour, de reconnaissance. Il se voyait grand écrivain, cherchait des « formes nouvelles ». Les autres, Arkadina, sa mère, actrice vieillissante, Trigorine, écrivain à la mode, Sorine, malade de vouloir enfin vivre, Dorn, médecin en retraite et séducteur blasé, Medvédienko, instituteur anarcho-marxiste, Macha enfin, déprimée à perpetuité… Tous pataugent dans le quotidien, attendant un improbable ailleurs, ou simplement installés dans la jouissance tiède du présent, ou bien encore guettant la lumière du succès. Chacun se débat comme il peut, comme un chien, dans les draps sales de l’existence, souvent s’enivre d’espérances alcoolisées, le vague à l’âme. Trigorine, lui, prélève quelques lambeaux de cette chair vive pour ses livres…
Cruauté des rapports au théâtre
« A travers Nina et Konstantin, Tchekhov prévenait peut-être déjà des risques d’une société qui fait du rêve un commerce, et des conséquences d’un narcissisme blessé, déstructuré qui déplace le centre de gravité à l’extérieur de soi. », souligne le metteur en scène Mikaël Serre. Sa Mouette, privée de ses élans mélancoliques, vole au-dessus du désastre. Dans un décor de villégiature bon marché, les comédiens empoignent les mots sans ménagement, ils exaspèrent la fièvre, le fracas des ambitions et des égos, la violence des désirs qui cognent au cœur et s’abîment sur les brisants du vécu. Ils montrent aussi la coulisse du théâtre, ce carnassier qui se nourrit de vie, la férocité des relations humaines qui se masquent sous les belles manières et intentions humanistes des grands textes. La troupe (Servane Ducorps, Christèle Tual, Pascal Rénéric…) tient le jeu sous haute tension. Les corps frappent, ploient, vocifèrent. Parfois s’adoucissent. Disent tout de cette hargne qui se concentre tous les sucs et l’amertume mêlés de l’existence.
