Loin de toute mauvaise humeur, l’expression revancharde « avoir la niaque » signifie « en vouloir » pour désigner la combativité de l’être dans la tentative de se construire une identité, de se frayer une existence dans un monde hostile et semé d’embûches, pour peu – comme on le dit trivialement – qu’on ne soit pas né avec une petite cuillère en argent dans la bouche. C’est la situation initiatique particulièrement ardue de Nassim vivant à Clichy, de père français inconnu et de mère algérienne, la figure à peine transposée de l’auteur et acteur Chad Chenouga dans La Niaque, pièce autobiographique qu’il interprète sur le plateau : « Ma mère a sombré parce qu’elle était trop accroc aux médocs, moi jamais aucune substance me rendra esclave ». L’enfant est placé dans un centre d’accueil, un établissement prenant en charge des jeunes en danger qui ne peuvent plus rester dans leur famille. Voilà Nassim à Fontenay, aux mains d’éducateurs et de travailleurs sociaux plus ou moins sympas ou attachants, que supervise un directeur glauque et peu recommandable. Aux côtés de l’orphelin, des compagnons de misère, des frères d’infortune, incarnant positivement les métissages ethniques et culturels : Christian est rwandais, Malek tunisien, mais pas né là-bas, Sian vietnamien …
L’émotion intacte est livrée avec pudeur et passion
La vie du bon élève est scindée en deux. Le lycée d’un côté, avec la soif d’apprendre et d’emprunter l’ascenseur social. D’où la délectation à bien parler la langue française, comme le professeur d’économie : « … Force est de constater …», et à frayer avec les Lettres persanes de Montesquieu. De l’autre côté, la loi du foyer avec les copains aux signes vestimentaires identifiables dont la casquette, et qui parlent verlan, argot marqué par un accent stéréotypé des banlieues. S’agissant d’un camarade : « C’est chelou…, tous les jours, il fume son teuchi…» Mais le lycéen ne se laisse pas aller aux trafics illégaux, ni à la violence, combattant avec obstination la misère langagière, la détresse intellectuelle et morale. Sur la scène, se dresse l’acteur dont l’émotion intacte est livrée avec pudeur et passion, sans éviter parfois quelques baisses de régime. À ses côtés, les danseurs de Krump, adeptes de battles, Wrecker (Stael Isaya-Wa) et Romuald Brizolier ou Miguel Ortega (en alternance). Les interprètes sont porteurs d’une énergie ludique inouïe, éloignée des propos acerbes et des comportements agressifs. Ils simulent joyeusement la haine et la hargne, des sentiments contrôlés et canalisés pour en extraire l’élan vital. Une illustration bien enlevée pour ce récit doux amer et sincère.
