Voilà une belle surprise que cette Noce présentée par la troupe de la Comédie-Française. Une surprise que l’on doit à une metteure en scène encore inconnue en France : Isabel Osthues. De cette artiste allemande née en 1966, on ne sait pas grand chose, mis à part qu’elle a été l’assistante de Christoph Marthaler, qu’elle a été engagée comme metteur en scène permanente au Schauspielhaus de Zurich pour la saison 2000/2001, qu’elle a créé, en Suisse et en Allemagne, des pièces d’auteurs contemporains (Lukas Bärfuss, Jan Neumann, Biljana Srbljanovic…) comme d’auteurs classiques (Euripide, Georg Büchner, Federico García Lorca…). Aujourd’hui, après avoir assisté à une représentation de La Noce au Théâtre du Vieux-Colombier (œuvre plus connue sous le titre La Noce chez les petits bourgeois), on sait une chose de plus : il s’agit d’une artiste de talent. Une artiste qui s’est emparé de la pièce en un acte de Bertolt Brecht avec une grande intelligence. « Dans un premier temps, explique Isabel Osthues, on a l’impression qu’il s’agit d’une simple pièce burlesque où prime le comique mais, à y regarder de plus près, on en voit toute l’ambiguïté, toute l’ambivalence, deux notions caractéristiques de la petite bourgeoisie… »
De la gaieté au désespoir
Dépassant une grille de lecture strictement sociologique, Isabel Osthues élabore ici un spectacle d’une grande vitalité qui, non seulement pointe du doigt les travers de la petite bourgeoisie (une famille de l’entre-deux-guerres se réunit à l’occasion d’un repas de mariage qui, peu à peu, va à vau-l’eau), mais éclaire également les failles atemporelles, universelles de l’écartèlement entre l’être et le paraître, entre les aspirations intimes et les contingences sociales. On s’amuse beaucoup de ce tableau clownesque librement inspiré de l’univers de Karl Valentin. On rit, mais pas seulement. Car la justesse et la profondeur avec lesquelles les neuf Comédiens français (Véronique Vella, Cécile Brune, Sylvia Bergé, Laurent Natrella, Marie-Sophie Ferdane, Stéphane Varupenne, Nâzim Boudjenah, Félicien Juttner, Elliot Jenicot, qui fait son entrée dans la troupe – tous remarquables) nourrissent les enjeux de La Noce et nous entrainent dans des réflexions très aiguës sur l’humain, sur notre propension au conformisme, sur l’oppression des apparences, sur la solitude, sur la complexité de la vie en société et des rapports à l’autre…
