C’est une pièce culte, Le Songe d’une nuit d’été de Shakespeare, avec ses histoires de divinités, d’artisans amateurs de théâtre et de jeunes amoureux qui se trouvent puis se perdent à cause de philtres magiques, de déguisements et de caprices princiers, provocateurs de coups de foudre. Ainsi, une noble figure féminine sous le charme d’un âne… Un conte féerique qui sollicite tous les champs de l’imaginaire. Il n’en fallait pas plus pour que Thomas Ostermeier, secondé par la chorégraphe Constanza Macras, s’en prenne à cette loi du chaos, avec l’idée de mieux bousculer les habitudes et les convenances pour emmener le spectateur loin des certitudes endormies. La griffe personnelle d’Ostermeier est identifiable à travers le traitement accordé aux auteurs contemporains comme Marius Von Mayenburg, Jon Fosse, Mark Ravenhill ou Sarah Kane, et aux classiques modernes, Brecht, Tchekhov et Ibsen. L’énergie de son Nora ( Maison de Poupée) en est un exemple frappant.
Un théâtre corporel expressif
Un théâtre radical, efficace et violent comme un miroir tendu au monde. Cette fois, pour Le Songe d’une nuit d’été, le metteur en scène échappe à la volonté d’une critique néo-réaliste, il s’en prend au tréfonds de l’homme, un animal ou une bête déguisée. Pour décor, une boîte de nuit des seventies – lounge et canapés dus au décorateur Jan Pappelbaum, pour une atmosphère érotique et musicale qui surfe entre Haendel, hard-rock et électro pop, en compagnie du New-Yorkais Chris Dahlgren, bassiste de jazz, et aussi de Maurice de Martin et Alex Nowitz, une voix unique de contre-ténor. Les figures shakespeariennes revisitées donnent libre cours à un théâtre corporel expressif, le temps d’une nuit extravagante, où sous les masques d’animaux, les frustrations et les convoitises sexuelles se débrident.
