Une nuit glaciale de la Saint-Sylvestre, une petite fille pauvre joue du violon au milieu des passants qui lui jettent quelques pièces. Les allumettes qu’elle craque les unes après les autres font naître « des visions étranges, des histoires étonnantes portées par de mystérieux personnages, tels des fées un peu folles, des chevaliers et des drôles de monstres. Autant d’évasions du réel qui lui redonnent force et courage pour affronter la dureté de son existence ». Pour adapter le conte d’Andersen, Joachim Latarjet et Alexandra Fleischer réunissent autour d’eux un danseur-performeur, une actrice-chanteuse, un acteur-musicien et un musicien multi-instrumentiste. Le conte est l’occasion de rendre hommage à la puissance vitale de la musique, sur un rythme trépidant et des chansons gonflées d’énergie, à partir des poèmes d’Arthur Rimbaud, William Blake et Jules Laforgue.
