Rusée, la petite renarde de Janacek, mais surtout profondément libre et même féministe : seule la mort (par accident, et maladresse du vagabond Harašta) réussira à mettre un terme à sa soif de vivre et à son émancipation. Pour mettre en scène ce monde fabuleux, où hommes et animaux parlent le même langage, Louise Moaty entend « donner vie à cet univers foisonnant par la réalisation devant les spectateurs d’un film mêlant dessins, théâtre d’objet, et chanteurs, repris en direct pour être incrustés dans l’image. ». Tout en s’inspirant des procédés des débuts du cinéma, elle convoque également les spectateurs, à qui sont remis des masques en papier, afin qu’ils deviennent les animaux de la forêt. Si l’esprit de la mise en scène est ludique, c’est bien sûr avec le plus grand sérieux que l’ensemble TM+, dirigé par Laurent Cuniot, rend justice aux somptueuses pages orchestrales de cet opéra qui comblera petits et grands.
