En japonais, potsunen désigne l’état de celui qui est tout seul. Tel est Monsieur Potsunen, le personnage inventé par Kentarô Kobayashi, l’un des comiques les plus célèbres et les plus populaires au Japon. Dans son impeccable costume trois pièces, Monsieur Potsunen vit une journée très ordinaire pour lui, mais extraordinairement loufoque pour ceux qui pénètrent dans son drôle d’univers, entre mangas et films de Charlie Chaplin ou d’Harold Lloyd. Sans un mot, mais à l’aide de petits films d’animation qu’il a lui-même dessinés, de jeux de lumière et de quelques éléments de décor, Kentarô Kobayashi « transforme le quotidien de Monsieur Potsunen en un livre d’images où se mêlent mime, vidéo et magie ». Ce petit bonhomme poétique, émouvant et touchant, provoque rires et sourires mâtinés de tendresse et d’empathie pour sa fragile et désarmante humanité.
