Il y a comme un volontarisme bravache dans le spectacle que présente Emmanuel Daumas, en ce début de saison, au Théâtre du Vieux-Colombier. Un volontarisme qui semble vouloir se démarquer à tout prix de l’image de sérieux et d’apesanteur qui colle – il est vrai parfois trop facilement – aux écrits de Marguerite Duras. Les romans et les pièces n’ont, certes, pas à être considérés comme des temples ou comme des sanctuaires. La création théâtrale devrait d’ailleurs toujours s’attacher à faire vivre les œuvres, à les interroger, à les explorer afin d’en éclairer les recoins inexplorés. Mais, le regard distancié et humoristique que le metteur en scène Emmanuel Daumas porte sur La Pluie d’été, loin de défricher une nouvelle dimension de ce texte, ne fait qu’en gommer la beauté et qu’en ternir le propos. Nous plaçant dans une désagréable position de surplomb, ce spectacle aux accents de facétie, qui cherche à faire souffler un vent de liberté sur le plateau, étouffe dans le même mouvement toute percée du poétique et du politique, deux aspects essentiels du roman de Marguerite Duras.
Une proposition frivole
Cette œuvre publiée six ans avant la disparition de l’écrivaine (une œuvre pleine de vie, d’une densité et d’une humanité extrêmement touchantes) nous ouvre grand les portes d’un monde sans argent et sans culture : le monde d’une famille d’immigrés italo-slaves vivant dans un quartier populaire de la banlieue parisienne. Au sein de ce foyer, le jeune Ernesto fait figure d’original. N’annonce-t-il pas, un jour, à ses parents stupéfaits, qu’il ne veut plus aller à l’école « parce qu’on y apprend des choses qu’on ne sait pas »… Adolescent surdoué, il dépassera les carcans sociaux de son milieu d’origine pour partir faire sa vie autre part. Entrant de plain-pied dans l’univers de cette famille défavorisée, l’auteure de La Pluie d’été avance dans son récit de façon droite, sobre et lumineuse. Une façon d’aller sans chichi qui se situe à l’opposé de la mise en scène d’Emmanuel Daumas. Enfermés dans une succession de saynètes qui s’attachent principalement à faire des clins d’œil au public, Claude Mathieu, Eric Génovèse, Christian Gonon, Marie-Sophie Ferdane, Jérémy Lopez et Adeline D’Hermy font de leur mieux, mais ont bien du mal à sortir par le haut de cette proposition accrocheuse et frivole.
