À l’origine de La pluie noire, il y a l’histoire d’un vieil homme. Un comédien irakien prisonnier de guerre pendant le conflit entre l’Irak et l’Iran (1980-1988), qui a subi la torture et a fini par être relâché suite à un échange entre prisonniers de guerre. Samir Mamdoh le rencontre en France, de même que l’artiste syrien Anas Nassar. Leurs histoires se croisent. Elles font aussi écho au vécu du metteur en scène irakien qui les confie, ainsi qu’un texte personnel, à l’auteur Talal Hasan. Lequel ajoute aussi un récit, concernant la disparition de son fils journaliste, suite au passage de l’État Islamique. Fiction inspirée de toutes ces histoires vécues, la pièce témoigne des blessures psychologiques causées par la guerre. Elle met à distance la violence. Et prouve qu’il est possible de trouver les mots « pour rester debout et faire triompher la vie ».
