Après avoir un temps envisagé d’adapter La Princesse de Clèves par le biais d’un spectacle de « format habituel », Magali Montoya a dû se résoudre à l’évidence : ce projet ne pouvait voir le jour qu’à travers la prise en charge de l’entièreté du roman de Madame de Lafayette. Confiant cette traversée de presque huit heures (visible en deux parties ou en intégrale) à cinq voix féminines (dont la sienne – une artiste peintre et un musicien sont également présents sur le plateau), la comédienne et metteure en scène à cherché à échapper « à une forme de représentation réaliste des maux humains » pour privilégier « la quête de la profondeur et du trouble qui y président ». « J’espère transmettre ainsi, déclare Magali Montoya, cet envahissement qui me déborde et que je ne contrôle pas dans la lecture du texte, cette savante et sensible allégorie de l’amour ».
