Le rôle de ce médecin-chef sur le chemin de la retraite est écrit pour l’acteur chevronné Richard Martin. Ce directeur d’hôpital dont la carrière est marquée par le succès est pourtant en proie à des démons vivaces qui le fragilisent sans pitié. Un calamar ne cesse étrangement de le hanter, l’image même d’un néant agressif, glouton et virulent contre lequel il a lutté toute sa vie et qui ne désarme jamais. L’écriture d’inspiration rabelaisienne de l’auteur marseillais Henri – Frédéric Blanc est caractérisée par une verve farcesque, satirique et philosophique qui relève d’un regard libertaire et anarchiste. Dans la Révolte des fous, la folie tient lieu de métaphore de la poésie et de l’imagination. Il s’agit bien de sauvegarder ce feu sacré sans se perdre complètement. À travers la critique de la rationalité économique totalitaire de notre monde de chiffres et d’âmes mortes, la metteuse en scène Tatiana Stepantchenko se penche avec intelligence sur le tremplin de l’inventivité qui seule peut faire échec au néant.
