Inspirée du roman de B. Traven, mort à Mexico en 1969, dont la véritable identité reste un mystère, La Rosa Blanca met en lumière un duel tragique à l’intensité digne d’un film de John Huston, au fil d’une intrigue à rebondissements ancrée dans l’histoire mexicaine. Deux mondes opposés s’affrontent. D’un côté, la vie « douce et paisible » d’une hacienda régie par l’Indien Yacinto Yanez, où depuis des générations vivent soixante-dix familles. De l’autre, l’appétit insatiable d’une compagnie pétrolière américaine, la Condor Oil de Chaney Collins, déterminée à acquérir cette terre par tous les moyens, y compris les plus brutaux et les plus véreux. Les convoitises d’un capitalisme sans limites contre l’héritage quasi sacré de la terre et des coutumes : un face-à-face à l’issue prévisible.
Une économie de moyens étonnamment expressive
Adel Hakim parvient à restituer toute la force dramatique de l’œuvre, grâce aux lumières et à la scénographie d’Yves Collet et à l’interprétation sans faille de Maryse Aubert. Des objets miniatures configurent et symbolisent le réel dans toute son implacabilité ; et la comédienne, tel un maître de cérémonie de cabaret affranchi des paillettes et de la gloire, donne voix au narrateur et aux personnages avec finesse et pertinence. Evoquant l’univers du music-hall, évoquant aussi le cinéma des polars, la pièce met ainsi à jour un monde perverti abîmé par la course au profit, un monde sans horizon, bouleversé par le progrès, où la vie même ne vaut rien face au Dieu Dollar. C’est avec une précision d’entomologiste que la mise en scène dissèque le processus tragique, sans sentimentalisme, mais avec un regard lucide et incisif.
