Le ton est concret, imagé, ancré dans le quotidien, bien que faisant preuve d’accents résolument littéraires. Plus de vingt ans après la disparition de Pierre Desproges, les chroniques interprétées par Christian Gonon sur la scène du théâtre du Vieux-Colombier sonnent à nos oreilles comme de véritables morceaux de bravoure stylistique. Des morceaux de bravoure dont se dégagent, il est vrai, une grande efficacité humoristique, un sens très piquant de la dérision, voire de la provocation, mais également une finesse, une langue, une exigence formelle renvoyant aux qualités d’un écrivain de talent. En effet, Pierre Desproges s’affirme ici, indiscutablement, comme un véritable auteur. Et c’est sans doute cette dimension qui frappe le plus dans La seule certitude que j’ai, c’est d’être dans le doute. Destinés à des interventions radiophoniques et télévisuelles, ainsi qu’à l’édition*, les textes choisis par Christian Gonon laissent percer, derrière la drôlerie, des perspectives pleines de sensibilité et même, à l’occasion, une certaine forme de poésie.
Desproges, un véritable auteur
Ces textes, le sociétaire de la Comédie-Française s’en empare avec aisance, en toute simplicité, sans jamais chercher à jouer « à la manière de ». Tour à tour précis, anguleux, acerbe, étrange, fuyant, frontal…, il varie les effets et compose une performance aux contrastes très subtils. Pourtant, une note manque : la noirceur, la cruauté corrosive qui viendraient menacer l’expression d’une bonne humeur trop tranquille, qui pourraient rendre plus dangereuses certaines audaces, plus dérangeantes certaines saillies — saillies à l’occasion desquelles la mort s’invite à la table du rire. Même si ce n’est qu’un détail, cette note supplémentaire donnerait davantage de complexité à l’univers du spectacle. « Y avait à mon insu, sous-jacent à mon flanc, squattérisant mes bronches, comme un crabe affamé qui me broutait le poumon, écrit Pierre Desproges dans le texte sur lequel s’achève la représentation. Le soir même, chez l’écailler du coin, j’ai bouffé un tourteau. Ça nous fait un partout. » Tout est dit.
