Pièce ensorcelante entre toutes, méditation pétrie de fantaisie et de
mélancolie sur l’ivresse du pouvoir et de la manipulation, La Tempête
fascine Dominique Pitoiset. L’île où est exilé Prospéro, injustement dépossédé
de son duché, en compagnie de sa fille, d’un esclave difforme et d’un esprit de
l’air, est pour le metteur en scène un théâtre, prenant vie grâce au vieux
magicien. Lorsque au large croise un navire avec à son bord son frère et le Roi,
qui l’ont trahi, Prospéro, ici aveugle, car « enfermé en lui-même », déclenche
une tempête et tout ce beau monde se retrouve échoué sur l’île, à la fois
labyrinthe et lieu de vérité. Le surnaturel participe pleinement à la revanche,
qui se dénoue par l’abandon de la magie et l’ouverture au monde. Les naufragés
sont des poupées baroques de type bunraku. Les comédiens français, italiens,
allemands ou tunisiens jouent dans leur langue et varient les registres :
truculence de la commedia dell’arte, réalisme psychologique à la
française ou théâtralité concrète post-brechtienne. Un voyage mental au c’ur de
l’illusion créée par l’immense William.
