Dans les livres d’Alexandre Romanès, sa femme Délia et ses filles sont partout. Dans Un peuple de promeneurs (Gallimard, 2011) par exemple, il rapporte les propos du poète gitan Jean-Marie Kerwich : « Alexandre, ta fille Alexandra, tu devrais l’attacher à une corde à la caravane. Elle est terrible, elle va finir par avoir un accident ». Loin de suivre ce drôle de conseil, les parents ont encouragé l’envol de leur cinquième et dernière enfant, qui est aujourd’hui l’héroïne éponyme de leur nouveau spectacle, La Trapéziste des Anges. Après Les Nomades tracent les chemins du ciel, le Cirque Romanès poursuit son exploration de cieux où brille particulièrement la femme.
Le cirque est une fête
« La plupart des femmes voient Dieu dans l’homme, et c’est beau. La plupart des hommes ne voient pas Dieu dans la femme, c’est dommage », lit-on dans le recueil de poèmes-proverbes d’Alexandre Romanès. Comme autour d’un astre, les artistes du dernier cirque tzigane et ceux que la famille a invités pour l’occasion déploient tous leurs talents autour de la vedette. Ils jonglent, font les funambules et les as du cerceau. Ils jouent et dansent sur des musiques tziganes des Balkans. Et comme chaque année, ils proposent à tous les amoureux de cette culture et de la fête à célébrer avec eux jusqu’à l’aube le Réveillon du Nouvel An.
