Beaumarchais a inspiré les plus grands compositeurs : Rossini pour Le Barbier de Séville en 1815, Mozart pour Les Noces de Figaro en 1786 et, plus près de nous, Darius Milhaud pour La mère coupable, un ouvrage beaucoup moins connu créé en 1966. Sous la plume d’Olivier Kaspar pour l’adaption musicale (et la direction musicale) et Jean-Luc Paliès pour le livret (et la mise en scène), ces trois opéras ne deviennent plus qu’un ! Dans un décor d’arène Sévillane baigné du bleu du ciel andalou, le projet rassemble et fond quelques-uns des meilleurs moments de ces trois opéras de styles très éloignés, chantés dans des langues différentes (italien et français), en choisissant de mettre l’accent sur trois personnages principaux : Almaviva, Rosine et Figaro, avec pour objectif « d’appuyer sur la vision décalée qu’avait Beaumarchais de son œuvre en référence à certains censeurs »… La distribution aligne sept jeunes chanteurs dont Matthieu Lécroart (Figaro), Magali Paliès (Rosine) et Thill Mantero (Almaviva) dans les rôles principaux, portés par un orchestre habilement compressé de onze musiciens (piano, quintette à vents, quintette à cordes).
