C’est la mort qui met en scène ce spectacle, du propre aveu d’Ilka Schönbein qui semble détenir à son propos des secrets cachés au commun des mortels… Voyante ou visionnaire, sorte de pythie malicieuse ou de chamane capable de dialoguer avec les esprits, Ilka Schönbein est une artiste à part qui imagine des spectacles dont la beauté formelle et la perfection des images créées composent un univers mystérieux où chacun projette et retrouve souvenirs, angoisses, rêves et fantômes. Les spectateurs de La Vieille et la bête sont accueillis par le clavier malicieux d’Alexandra Lupidi, voix d’ange et sourire sarcastique, sorte de luciférienne présence qui semble garder le temple fabuleux dont vont surgir les personnages fantasmagoriques qu’anime la marionnettiste. Mort qui rôde, mort qui guette, mort invitée comme pour l’apprivoiser, mort qui joue et dont on peut se jouer, Ilka Schönbein ose affronter l’irreprésentable et crée une ambiance intense où la tendresse et la délicatesse parviennent à subjuguer les démons convoqués par ce spectacle cathartique, à la fois terrifiant et consolateur.
Théâtre des mystères
Une petite ballerine dont le rêve est de devenir étoile et qui le poursuit jusqu’au bout de ses pointes et de ses forces, une vieille femme agonisante jouant à cache-cache avec une mort matée à coups de pommes, un âne fils de roi et joueur de luth amoureux d’une princesse : Ilka Schönbein pousse l’interprétation jusqu’à l’identification. Elle mêle son corps à celui de sa marionnette, lui prête ses bras, ses jambes, créant un mélange fabuleux entre l’esprit et la matière, comme si elle insufflait au golem le souffle de la vie en plaquant sur son front le verset mystérieux que constitue l’histoire racontée. Théâtre des métamorphoses que celui d’Ilka Schönbein, du mixte et du monstre, de la transgression des frontières et des taxons, théâtre de masques qui révèlent plus qu’ils ne cachent : y assister participe autant de l’expérience métaphysique que de la jouissance esthétique tant ce qui s’y montre relève de ces mystères que la plupart craignent et évitent et que seul le véritable artiste sait approcher.
