Le festival ouvre avec le Big Band Antony Jazz placé sous la direction de Laurent Mignard (par ailleurs responsable du Duke Orchestra) qui, pour cette édition, met le cap vers le Brésil et plonge avec joie dans la samba et la bossa-nova (le 18). À chaque édition, le trio de Patrick Cabon (piano), Gary Brunton (contrebasse) et Andrea Michelutti (batterie) a carte blanche pour inviter le soliste de son choix : il s’est porté cette année sur le saxophoniste François Jeanneau, figure du jazz hexagonal qui a été de bien des aventures musicales (le 19). Autre habitué de « Place au jazz », le pianiste Frank Woeste se lance, pour sa part, dans un « duel » avec son confrère venu du classique, Jean-François Zygel, dans un face-à-face au clavier plein de suspens (le 26).
Une programmation solide et foisonnante
Entre une conférence consacrée à la place des femmes dans le jazz et un concert de l’Amazing Keystone Big Band d’après Alice au pays des merveilles de Lewis Carroll destiné au jeune public, la violoniste Fiona Monbet propose son « Maëlstrom », dans lequel un trio de jazz se greffe à un petit orchestre de chambre qu’elle fait voyager dans une musique à la forte dimension cinématographique. Enfin, « Place au jazz » se conclura, comme il se doit, par une jam session organisée cette année autour de la chanteuse Deborah Tanguy.
