Une première version de L’Affaire de la rue de Lourcine a vu le jour en 2008 au Théâtre National de Strasbourg dans le cadre de l’École supérieure d’art dramatique. Les metteurs en scène Daniel Jeanneteau et Marie-Christine Soma renouvellent l’expérience en livrant à plaisir la teneur loufoque et burlesque de ces brillants travaux d’élèves. L’exercice de style de cette pièce en un acte convient particulièrement aux jeunes gens impétueux, engagés dans cette folie scénique faite d’intrigues et de rebondissements invraisemblables. Lenglumé, bourgeois de la ville, se retrouve un beau matin dans son lit avec Mistingue, ancien camarade de jeunesse en compagnie duquel il a fait la fête, la nuit passée, sans que ni l’un ni l’autre, égarés dans les brumes de l’alcool, ne se souviennent de rien. Quelques indices demeurent : un parapluie vert perdu et les mains noircies de charbon des deux fêtards. Or, le journal apporté par le domestique, Justin, un rien bandit, informe comme par hasard du meurtre d’une charbonnière. Il n’en faut pas plus pour que le duo faussement macho, apeuré et terrorisé, s’imagine coupable du pire des crimes.

Jeanneteau et Soma ont vu dans ces travers du comportement, la preuve magistrale d’un inconscient débridé en travail. De quoi peut-on être capable obstinément quand on ne contrôle ni ne censure plus rien au-delà de la maîtrise de soi ? Un désir d’ogre rêveur fait agir les pantins mécaniques que nous sommes. Aussi les personnages sont-ils « sexualisés » à l’excès, laissant transparaître un imaginaire inavoué et frustré. Les hommes, côté Lenglumé, portent escarpins et justaucorps sexy tandis que les Mistingue, ventripotents au nez rouge, jouent aux pochards virils. Les femmes sont affublées de prothèses, gros seins ballants et fessiers impressionnants, tels des masques qui laisseraient libre enfin, la personne intérieure. Ce ballet de farce est d’autant plus évocateur que les personnages sont démultipliés : les couples Lenglumé et Mistingue sont repris en miroir à l’infini; de même, les dames Lenglumé déclinent trois variantes. Les chansons ajoutent à l’esprit festif de ce tourbillon. Dans un lointain de bougies kafkaïennes, on distingue une boîte à fantasmes où les jeunes gens dénudés errent, en ouvrant et fermant les portes d’un théâtre de boulevard exigu. Quoiqu’il pétille d’enthousiasme, le spectacle gagnerait à moins vouloir prouver l’excellence comique d’une vision âcre qui s’essouffle à force d’abondance.
