« Ce n’est pas la guerre, Sarah, c’est l’occupation, explique Itzhak à son épouse. On ne peut pas s’attendre à ce qu’ils ne fassent rien. (…) Un jour, on va devoir vivre avec eux. » « Ils », « eux », ce sont les Palestiniens, hommes et femmes que ce jeune israélien en cours de service militaire a de plus en plus de mal à combattre. Car, il a tué Salem et cette mort agit en lui comme une déflagration. Une déflagration qui, bien sûr, retentit également du côté de la famille du disparu. Le père de ce dernier, imprimeur, va lui-même confectionner les affiches représentant le visage de ce fils tombé en martyr de la cause palestinienne. Les portraits ainsi imprimés iront tapisser les murs d’une terre qui, à l’image de ce foyer amputé, ne cesse de s’enfoncer dans la souffrance et la colère. Le conflit israélo-palestinien est un sujet dont assez peu d’auteurs dramatiques occidentaux se sont emparés. Un sujet périlleux, éminemment sensible, qui peut entraîner bien des dérives et bien des schématismes. Ces pièges, le jeune auteur québécois Philippe Ducros a su les éviter en plongeant dans la profondeur et la vérité de l’humain, en choisissant de composer une fresque de l’ordinaire, de la quotidienneté, plutôt qu’une pièce à thèse.
Une terre à partager
Cette fresque — segmentée en vingt-cinq « affiches » — tisse un maillage extrêmement dense de lieux et de situations, de révoltes, d’engagements, de rêves et de renoncements. Comme autant de parenthèses ouvrant sur des trajectoires personnelles hautement complexes, L’Affiche pose les jalons de réalités qui échappent aux réductions manichéennes. Car, ce sont des êtres et non simplement de beaux concepts qui se situent au centre de ce projet théâtral. Des êtres déchirés, torturés par leurs blessures intimes, que Guy Delamotte a eu la bonne idée de placer dans un univers totalement déréalisé. En effet, la scénographie conçue par Jean Haas ne se réfère en rien aux multiples points géographiques définis par le texte. Elle trace le cadre d’une salle de réunion dans laquelle paraissent devoir se tenir des négociations de paix entre Américains, Palestiniens, Israéliens et Européens. En s’écartant de manière radicale d’un réalisme illustratif, le metteur en scène construit une représentation aux effets parfois volontaristes, mais qui démontre une belle hauteur de vue. Une représentation pleine d’exigence qui offre la possibilité de réflexions dégagées de toutes perspectives sentimentales ou misérabilistes.
