Dans L’Amante anglaise, Marguerite Duras s’inspire librement d’un fait-divers ayant marqué les années 1940 : un meurtre perpétré par une femme sur son époux. Si l’écrivaine reproduit les circonstances de ce crime, elle en réinvente les différents protagonistes, prenant ainsi ses distances avec la simple réalité documentaire. Pour incarner le rôle de Claire Lannes, meurtrière se situant au cœur de ce drame, la metteure en scène Marie-Louise Bischofberger a choisi de faire appel à Ludmila Mikaël. Une intuition singulière et audacieuse, tant l’image de la grande comédienne peut paraître lointaine de ce personnage. Faisant suite à Madeline Renaud, Catherine Sellers ou Suzanne Flon, Ludmila Mikaël réinvente littéralement la figure de Claire Lannes. Cette performance magistrale, bouleversante, lui valut le Prix de la meilleure comédienne décerné par le Syndicat de la critique en juin 2009.
