Depuis Belgrade en 2002, le duo formé par Lidija Bizjak et sa sœur Sanja, de douze ans sa cadette, fait du quatre mains à deux pianos des occasions de voyages musicaux. Celui qu’elle proposent à destination des Amériques met en évidence la porosité entre répertoires savants et populaires qui caractérise tout un pan de la musique du continent américain pendant la seconde moitié du vingtième siècle. Si l’emblème du programme, Somewhere tiré de West Side Story, est devenu l’une des chansons les plus célèbres de l’histoire du cinéma, Copland, maître de Bernstein, Barber, et plus encore William Bolcom se sont nourris des « mélodies du coin de la rue », marquées par l’empreinte de la danse. Quand Gerswhin et le jazz se sont mutuellement adoptés, ce sont évidemment les syncopes du tango argentin que l’on retrouve chez Piazzolla, de l’autre côté de l’équateur.
