Avec Déversoir (2008) et J’aimerais pouvoir rire (2010) – phrase fétiche employée par son père -, Angéla Laurier se confrontait à son histoire familiale et au thème de la folie, à travers notamment la figure de son frère étiqueté schizophrène. « Mon métier de contorsionniste est mon exutoire aliénant », a-t-elle dit. Toujours dans la veine autobiographique, mais cette fois centrée sur elle, L’Angéla Bête traverse les faits marquants de sa vie depuis la petite enfance. Une vie hors du commun, atypique, où la scène est très tôt présente. A dix ans, gymnaste sélectionnée dans l’équipe nationale canadienne ; jeune adolescente, chanteuse sous la houlette d’un gourou ; puis circassienne, contorsionniste, danseuse, artiste au sein de divers cirques et compagnies autour du monde. En 2006, elle crée sa propre compagnie. Accompagnée de quatre musiciens, Angéla se lâche et fait son show rock’n’roll en forme de comédie musicale déjantée et hilarante. Un parcours exceptionnel et une énergie monstre !
