Circassienne et avant tout jongleuse, Phia Ménard met en forme un théâtre visuel troublant et puissant, un théâtre profondément singulier qui, au-delà du spectaculaire, interroge l’identité profonde de l’être et l’expérience de la métamorphose. Elle déjoue la gravité de façon impressionnante comme pour mettre en forme un irrépressible désir de liberté au cœur de multiples contraintes. « Je dis souvent que je ne suis pas là pour montrer quoi que ce soit, mais pour amener le public à vivre quelque chose, en stimulant son imaginaire. » confie-t-elle à nos colonnes (Hors série Le Cirque contemporain en France, La Terrasse, n°224). Elle se confronte dans plusieurs de ses créations aux éléments en un dialogue époustouflant entre la matière et le corps. Etonnante et facétieuse, pièce du vent destinée au jeune (et moins jeune) public, L’Après-midi d’un foehn orchestre un ballet de créatures aériennes nées de sacs plastiques colorés et emportés par la danse d’un souffle fort. Une artiste véritable, à ne pas manquer !
