Léopold Kopriva, double imaginaire de Václav Havel, est universitaire et philosophe. En attendant la descente de police sous la menace de laquelle il vit cloîtré chez lui comme un fantôme, il boit et se bourre de médicaments. Ses proches l’entourent, et leurs exhortations contradictoires achèvent de troubler son esprit vacillant. Lorsque arrivent les matons de la dictature, venus lui proposer de sauver sa peau en abandonnant la paternité du livre qui a déplu aux autorités, il se retrouve comme Galilée, condamné à un dilemme inhumain : peut-il, pour sauver sa peau, prétendre qu’il n’est pas lui ? Dans une veine qui emprunte sa noirceur à Kafka et son humour au théâtre de l’absurde, Václav Havel croque ses personnages avec une efficacité vipérine qui sait se mâtiner de tendresse. La troupe de la compagnie Libre d’Esprit sert avec habileté et drôlerie ce texte cruel et drôle, à l’implacable lucidité et à l’insoutenable légèreté.
