Les danses traditionnelles, souvent fascinantes, suscitent une part de
trouble : on est saisi par l’étrangeté des rondes et des rythmes inlassablement
répétés, par l’impact déroutant de gestes venus de loin. Ce sentiment est
particulièrement aigu face aux danses arméniennes, riches de nombreux échanges
entre Orient et Occident, qui sont aussi un acte de résistance : elles affirment
avec force l’identité arménienne, en dépit de l’exil et de l’oppression.
La compagnie Yeraz (« rêve » en arménien) a été fondée par Christina Galstian
Agoudjian, issue du Ballet National d’Arménie. Elle veut préserver le patrimoine
chorégraphique arménien, tout en le confrontant à la création contemporaine.
Parfums d’Arménie, première pièce de la compagnie, a remporté le premier
prix au Festival International de Folklore de Bulgarie en 2005. Cette création
s’inspire de l’histoire de l’Arménie : un spectacle-kaléidoscope, avec plus de
soixante artistes sur scène, qui invite enfants et adultes à un voyage dans le
temps et l’espace.
