Partisans de propositions artistiques originales et décalées pour renouveler le public de la musique classique, les solistes du Quatuor Leonis n’hésitent pas à mettre en scène leur « instrument collectif » où ils se font à la fois musiciens, comédiens et danseurs. Après Éclisse totale créé il y a bientôt dix ans, ils se sont associés à Jos Houben pour l’écriture d’un nouveau spectacle autour de l’aventure humaine singulière qu’est un quatuor à cordes. À partir du prétexte d’une conférence imaginaire et burlesque sur Schubert, les quatre pupitres multiplient les digressions et invitent à une plongée dans un univers avec des dieux – Mozart et Beethoven, mais aussi Debussy et Chostakovich – et avec ses péripéties quotidiennes, univers qui renvoie, sous un mode chaplinien assumé, à la vie de chacun d’entre nous. Avec son lot de tendresse et d’absurde, L’art délicat du quatuor se veut comme une désacralisation ludique et poétique de la « grande musique » et de ses chamanes tout à fait comme les autres.
