Le rire est au fondement de l’activité artistique et pédagogique de Jos Houben. Cet acteur burlesque a en effet dispensé de nombreux cours sur le rire avant de réaliser que ceux-ci pouvaient faire l’objet d’une présentation grand public. Ainsi est né L’Art du rire : spectacle qui analyse les différents mécanismes du rire à la façon d’une master class. Le clown s’intéresse au comique de situation : le corps étant le vrai sujet du rire, le rire étant le propre de l’homme. L’Art du rire n’est pas un essai sur le rire, plutôt une exploitation concrète de ses manifestations – le public servant ici de cobaye. Jos Houben déploie plus qu’il n’analyse l’art du rire, interrogeant de ce fait sa spontanéité. Si Jos Houben parvient réellement à nous faire rire à l’envi, n’est-ce pas une preuve que le rire peut être appréhendé de manière scientifique ?
