Une immense toile fichée en travers de la scène dévoile son envers rugueux, comme l’orée d’une énigme coupée dans la pénombre, tandis que Les Ménines fixe tranquillement le public. « Le tableau en son entier regarde une scène pour qui il est à son tour une scène. Pure réciprocité que manifeste le miroir regardant et regardé (…) », écrivait Michel Foucault dans Les mots et les choses à propos de l’œuvre de Velasquez. C’est sur cette citation picturale que s’ouvre L’Atelier du peintre, nouvelle création du Cirque Plume. « Dans cet échange de réel, de miroirs de regards, d’allers et retours entre l’œuvre, l’artiste et le spectateur, entre ce qu’on voit et ce qu’on devine, entre le mystère et la représentation du mystère, il y a toute la magie et l’essence du spectacle. » confie Bernard Kudlak, metteur en scène et directeur artistique de la compagnie, qui, depuis plus de vingt-cinq ans, colporte la magie d’un cirque contemporain et populaire. Adolescent, il rêvait de faire les Beaux-Arts. Un désir de liberté échevelé et l’appétit enfantin de tous les possibles le poussèrent vers le cirque… qui le ramène aujourd’hui à ses premières amours, escorté par Manet, Picasso, Duchamp, Bacon, Klein et bien d’autres.
Le spectacle et la représentation du spectacle
Sur le plateau, une bande de curieux visiteurs clandestins arpente les galeries d’un musée secret, découvre toiles et drôle de voiles au gré de cette virée vagabonde. Tant de merveilles sitôt prétextes à cadrer le sujet qui se défile et file hors cadre, quitte à faucher quelques rêves aux cimaises. Jusqu’à ce que la troupe en goguette disparaisse par l’échancrure d’un Fontana et se glisse dans l’antre imaginaire, là où s’enfantent, entre douleur et plaisir, gestes créatifs et repentirs. Saynètes surréalistes, barbouillages ludiques, envolées chimériques, jeux de rires et mots critiques : les treize artistes jouent des références picturales, des embrouilles et tambouilles de l’art contemporain. Sangles, mains à mains, trampoline, roue allemande, clown, théâtre d’ombres : les disciplines circassiennes se conjuguent en musique et donnent vie à toutes les fantaisies. « Le but des spectacles du Cirque Plume est la rencontre d’humanité, dans le partage d’émotions, d’éternités d’un instant, d’inconscient, d’amour et de joie, de rencontres, de beauté avec un public. De vivant à vivant. » aime à dire Bernard Kudlak, qui s’aventure dans les arcanes de la création et visite l’histoire de l’art à sa manière : c’est-à-dire vivante, poétique et ludique, fantasque et un brin foutraque, toujours inventive et festive.
