Compositeur emblématique de l’école napolitaine et auteur de la première adaptation lyrique du Barbier de Séville de Beaumarchais, Paisiello a également exercé sa verve sur un autre pilier de la littérature, le Don Quichotte de Cervantès. Avec la troupe de jeunes chanteurs du Teatro di San Carlo, Diego Ceretta fait revivre un exemple de l’opera buffa du settecento écrit sur un livret en ancien napolitain. Né à Palerme, et installé à Naples après avoir débuté sa carrière à Rome, Alessandro Scarlatti est quant à lui l’un des maillons essentiels de l’évolution du genre lyrique, en particulier de l’opera seria, dont Il Mitridate Eupatore est l’un des plus beaux avatars. Après l’avoir dirigé à Beaune en 2017, Thibault Noally le reprend avec un condensé des grandes voix baroques du moment, à l’instar du contre-ténor Paul-Antoine Bénos-Djian dans le rôle-titre.
