Le Concours international de piano d’Orléans occupe une place à part parmi ses pairs. Cette manifestation biennale, lancée en 1994 par Françoise Thinat et consacrée aux musiques écrites pour le piano au cours du xxe siècle et du début du xxie, a le rare mérite d’accompagner vraiment la carrière de ses lauréats. L’an dernier, le récital aux Bouffes du Nord de trois anciens lauréats – Toros Can (1998), Wilhem Latchoumia (2006) et Florence Cioccolani (2008) – avait permis de découvrir ou de retrouver trois personnalités déjà bien affirmées de la scène musicale ; ce fut aussi, tout simplement, un des beaux moments de la saison pianistique parisienne. De retour aux Bouffes du Nord, les organisateurs du festival ont décidé cette fois de faire entendre trois des lauréats de l’an dernier, dont le vainqueur du Prix Blanche Selva – la plus haute distinction du concours –, l’Américain Christopher Falzone. Ce jeune pianiste de vingt-quatre ans, qui a notamment reçu l’enseignement de Leon Fleisher, donnera en création la nouvelle version du Scorpion, œuvre pour piano, percussions et électronique de Martin Matalon. Il sera accompagné par les Percussions de Strasbourg, qui participaient l’an dernier à la compétition au côté des candidats dans Interstices de Philippe Hurel ; cette œuvre est reprise par la Coréenne Yejin Gil (née en 1980). Enfin, le Français Anaël Bonnet (28 ans) jouera Herma de Xenakis, pièce emblématique de l’avant-garde musicale du second xxe siècle. Chaque mini-récital débutera par une Étude de Debussy.
