Il est sans conteste le violoniste le plus glamour du moment. Avec son regard ténébreux, sa vie people (il a pour compagne Julie Depardieu), sans oublier sa sonorité intense et corsée, il séduit au-delà du microcosme de la musique classique. On a toutefois été déçu par son récent disque Crossover (EMI) consacré aux musiques de films (sa version du thème de « Mission impossible » frôle le ridicule…). C’est donc avec plaisir qu’on le retrouve dans un répertoire plus « classique », réunissant la Sonate n°2 de Schumann, la Sonate en la bémol de Janacek et la Sonate n°2 de Ravel. Pour l’occasion, il forme un duo avec le pianiste Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, au toucher toujours inspiré même si parfois techniquement fragile.
