Moins d’un an après la création scénique du projet « sacred Concert » à l’Eglise de la Madeleine, Mignard et ses troupes musicales se lancent dans celui un peu fou d’une tournée nationale dans quelques-unes des très belles cathédrales françaises. L’album et le DVD « live » sortent au même moment (sur le label Juste une trace/Socadisc). Duke Ellington lui-même considérait sa musique sacrée comme ce qu’il avait « fait de plus important ». Mignard a voulu éclairer cette part restée paradoxalement ignorée, voire dédaignée, à la fois par les interprètes classiques et le monde du jazz. En 1965, il s’est vu confier la création d’un concert de Musique Sacrée pour la consécration de Notre-Dame de la Grâce à San Francisco. « Le succès a été immense et deux autres créations ont suivi (New York en 1968 et Londres en 1973). Dans cette œuvre testament, le Duke a mis en scène (et en perspective) les mots de la Bible, sa perception des textes sacrés, ainsi que quelques-unes des situations qu’il a rencontrées. Nous avons sélectionné quelques-unes des plus belles pages pour donner naissance à cet oratorio ellingtonien » explique le directeur du Duke Orchestra.
