Dans la région Nord-Pas-de-Calais, dont la crise sociale et économique est liée aux conséquences de la désindustrialisation, le terme de progrès prend un sens bien particulier. La Comédie de Béthune a ainsi eu l’excellente idée d’inviter le musicien Richard Dubelski, compagnon de route de Georges Aperghis, à imaginer un spectacle autour de ce thème. Le cahier des charges était prolixe : il fallait réunir des musiciens amateurs avec des acteurs professionnels et faire intervenir la population locale. Force est de constater que Richard Dubelski, cumulant les fonctions de concepteur, metteur en scène et compositeur, a honorablement relevé ce défi en concoctant un spectacle imaginatif et bien rythmé. Au cœur de cet Avenir du progrès prend place une vidéo montrant des habitants de l’Artois qui dissertent sur la notion de progrès. Enseignants, médecins, syndicalistes ou retraités tirent des cartes à jouer sur lesquelles sont inscrits différents termes (clonage, nucléaire, téléphone portable..) qu’ils commentent. Les opinions sont parfois éclairées, parfois un peu « réac ». Remarquons que leurs témoignages rappellent ceux de la célèbre émission télévisée « Striptease », d’ailleurs bien implantée dans la région Nord-Pas-de-Calais.
Chansons accompagnées au ukulélé
En contrepoint de ce film, trois acteurs (Adeline-Fleur Baude, Florence Masure et Frédéric Tentelier) jouent le rôle d’un chœur antique new look, sur un registre souvent ironique. Si leur texte se résume parfois à des vérités un peu fumeuses sur le progrès, leur prestation musicale est bien plus convaincante. Les chansons accompagnées au ukulélé ou le solo de saxhorn apportent une dimension joliment décalée. Placés derrière un tulle, les musiciens amateurs – un ensemble de guitares et un orchestre d’harmonie – font le « service minimum ». En dépit de leur modeste niveau musical, il est dommage de les avoir ainsi déconnectés de l’action. Le spectacle, aussi pertinent soit-il, pourrait ainsi prendre à son compte cette jolie formule énoncée par l’un des comédiens : « le progrès a encore du progrès à faire ».
