Le 20 novembre 2006, à Emsdetten, en Allemagne, Sebastian Bosse, âge de dix-huit ans, pénètre dans son ancien lycée pour y faire feu sur ses professeurs et ses anciens camarades, avant de retourner l’arme contre lui. Quelques semaines plus tard, Lars Norén écrit Le 20 novembre, monologue inspiré du journal intime de l’adolescent. Dunblane, Columbine, Kauhajoki, Realengo et tant d’autres : de l’Ecosse au Brésil, nombreux sont les pays qui furent le cadre de tueries scolaires. Situations et personnalités des assassins sont tellement différentes qu’on réduit souvent l’analyse des faits à leur dimension psychologique, les individualisant et les restreignant à l’effet de la folie. L’intérêt du texte de Lars Norén, pourtant féru de psychanalyse et souvent enclin, dans ses pièces, à sonder les âmes, tient à sa dimension sociale et à la critique politique qu’il suggère. Le procédé est salvateur, car il ouvre le débat et évite de limiter le propos du héros à une logorrhée démente. Jacques David prend le parti de la sociologie, non pas contre, mais en complément de la psychologie : « Si Lars Norén choisit ce fait divers, dit-il, ce n’est pas pour le plaisir de mettre en mots une histoire sordide. C’est que ce fait divers n’en est pas un. C’est un objet, un acte, qui met en contradiction une société qui se veut être la grande protectrice de ses enfants ».
Parole de la catastrophe
La mise en scène s’inscrit dans cette perspective et s’applique à ne pas submerger la raison et les possibilités d’analyse sous les cris, les larmes et l’émotion. Jacques David se garde ainsi de la facilité et présente un travail pudique, qui respecte autant la complexité de la situation que la capacité de réception du public. Ni rapt affectif, ni pathos obscène dans ce spectacle, qui offre à la parole de l’assassin tous les moyens scéniques de son déploiement. Une immense cloison coupe la scène, de cour à jardin, et aménage pour Jean-Pascal Abribat, brillant interprète de ce monologue tragique, une sorte de coulisse, où il peut hurler ce qu’il ne peut pas dire à la salle. Proscenium de l’aveu et fond de scène de la pulsion : le plateau reproduit habilement les va-et-vient entre désir criminel et volonté d’élucidation. Jean-Pascal Abribat excelle dans la variation, et son jeu sert, avec autant de finesse que de force, le personnage complexe qu’il incarne. Tout se joue dans ce conflit entre dicible et indicible, et la mise en scène fait véritablement de cette œuvre « une pièce de la parole », selon les mots de Jacques David.
