Après un parcours de comédien et d’assistant à la mise en scène, Gregory Benoit a fondé la compagnie Les Yeux Grand Ouverts en 2005, à Annecy. Une structure à travers laquelle le jeune metteur en scène tend à « approfondir ses envies artistiques et partager sa passion du théâtre dans un rapport intime entre la scène et le public. » Souhaitant « rester sur les traces de Jean Vilar », les membres de cette compagnie haute-savoyarde ont pour ambition de créer un théâtre populaire, « un théâtre du vivant et de l’espoir, au service de l’homme, pour que nous n’oublions pas d’être ému ». Cette ambition cherche aujourd’hui à se concrétiser dans La Baiser de la veuve, une pièce du dramaturge américain Israël Horowitz qui « pose un regard tendre et implacable sur des personnages fragiles et violents », trois anciens camarades de classe — Betty, Georges et Bobby — qui se retrouvent après des années de séparation et tentent de s’arranger avec leur passé. « Israël Horowitz les rassemble tous trois et laisse faire la vie, explique Grégory Benoit. Où les mènera-t-elle ? Nous en faisons l’expérience avec eux. Quels non-dits se cachent dans leur passé ? Nous le découvrirons à la fin, quand eux-mêmes ne pourront plus ni reculer ni contourner ce qui les rassemble aujourd’hui. »
