Théâtre voyageur, le Cinérama, avec ses ors pâlis et des velours cramoisis,
est une sorte de castelet à rêves qui offre d’emblée au public l’occasion
d’entrer dans l’univers merveilleux et étrangement inquiétant du spectacle avant
même que ne s’ouvre le long rideau rouge derrière lequel évoluent les
marionnettes étonnantes des Chiffonnières. Melville, Dostoïevski et Tchekhov
offrent le matériau littéraire d’une exploration des limites entre réel et
folie : histoire de la vengeance d’Achab, aventures d’un crocodile ventriloque
et récit du fanatisme de Spalanzo. Quatre musiciens et cinq manipulateurs mènent
ce bal dément où les univers naissent comme par magie entre les plis d’un drap
maritime ou dans la reconstitution d’un mystérieux cabinet de curiosités. Les
marionnettes, diaboliquement vivantes comme des golems fascinants, interprètent
avec un brio poétique et burlesque cette traversée hallucinante des paysages
mentaux de la déraison.
