Une scénographie épurée, un plateau vidé de ses accessoires, et sept danseurs en quête de mouvement : Le Bénéfice du doute semble balayer plusieurs années de recherches où Christian Rizzo mettait en scène les corps dans un environnement plastique agencé avec le plus grand talent. Pourtant, on reconnaît toujours le sens aigu du plateau à l’œuvre dans cette nouvelle pièce, où rien n’est laissé au hasard : l’espace des sept danseurs, celui des mannequins suspendus et manipulés à vue, la lumière qui sculpte l’espace et rythme le temps, la musique, puissante ou chuchotée… La danse, d’une simplicité et d’une sobriété extrême, est un jeu de poids et de contrepoids incarnés par des interprètes tous en tension les uns vers les autres. L’écriture et le soin porté aux états de corps ne laissent, contrairement à ce que laisse entendre le titre de la pièce, aucune place à l’incertitude : Le Bénéfice du doute est une pièce chorégraphique de haut vol.
