Deux parcours de vie très différents et en même temps très proches : d’un côté, Clémentine, ancienne professeur de français exclue de l’Education Nationale, de l’autre Karim, jeune délinquant enfermé dans une maison de rééducation. Clémentine, fantasque « reine prolétaire, à la fois majestueuse et débonnaire » tente d’aider Karim à trouver un sens à sa vie et à pousser droit, comme ses tomates, à l’aide de quelques tuteurs et de beaucoup d’affection ! Cette rencontre, à la fois humaine et végétale, s’articule autour des soins à apporter aux tomates : « le semis, la plantation, le repiquage, la rationalisation, le taillage, la floraison, le désherbage, la récolte et enfin la dégustation ». Dans un décor foisonnant de couleurs, Marie Pagès chorégraphie ce pas de deux avec humour et tendresse, en se gardant de toute volonté moraliste, avec le seul souci de raconter une belle histoire.
