Il n’y a pas en Belgique que des adeptes du surréalisme et de l’humour absurde. Il y a aussi des artistes attachés à l’œuvre de Brecht. A l’aube de la deuxième guerre mondiale, Brecht s’exile en Finlande avant de traverser l’Atlantique pour les Etats-Unis. C’est au café de la gare d’Helsinki que se déroule ce dialogue fictif entre Ziffel, intellectuel physicien d’origine bourgeoise, et Kalle, ouvrier émancipé du travail par son engagement syndicaliste. Tels les personnages de Diderot, les deux philosophent avec humour en cette période noire du siècle dernier. Autour d’eux, l’aubergiste et une voix féminine qui porte celle du peuple, et les intermèdes musicaux empruntés au répertoire du compositeur de l’Opéra de Quat’sous. Une version qui s’attache à faire revivre l’atmosphère et les oppositions idéologiques d’une époque de chaos et d’utopies.
