La fortune ne lui a pas souri. Tant pis. Elle a appris depuis longtemps à bagarrer avec le destin, despote inconnu qui trace son chemin. Sans papiers, réfugiée de toutes les misères, elle fait le ménage à l’hôtel Beau Rivage, maison cossue où viennent s’alanguir les blasés perclus dans leur douillet mépris. Elle sait qu’elle sera toujours de ceux qui observent derrière la vitre le festin des nantis. Qu’importe. Seule au fond de sa banlieue, ensevelie sous le manque, elle dévide les maux de sa révolte quotidienne et chante le « cabaret de la vie » pour étourdir son cœur, réchauffer un peu son existence trouée de courant d’air.
Le chant des accidentés de la vie
En une quinzaine de textes ajustés à la personnalité de la comédienne et chanteuse Marie Thomas, le poète Jean-Pierre Siméon croque l’injustice sociale et la peine qui frappent les précaires, avec réalisme et tendresse. « Siméon ne maquille pas le malheur – un homme debout – cette langue refuse que nous soyons transis, immobiles, silencieux. Il attend de nous qu’on vive haut. », dit Michel Bruzat, metteur en scène. « Il a l’intelligence du cœur. Il éclaire la route et nous accompagne. » Escortée au piano et à l’accordéon par Benoit Ribière, Marie Thomas frotte les mots contre les notes espiègles de de Gilles Favreau pour en faire sonner toute l’émotion et la poésie.
