« Comment marcher vers moi-même, vers mon peuple, avec mon sang en feu et mon histoire en ruine ? »… Ces vers du poète libanais Adonis, chargés des éclats d’une vie de combats, portent le geste de Faustin Linyelula et percent la nuit pour éveiller les souvenirs enfouis sous le silence tapageur de l’époque. Né au Zaïre, future République Démocratique du Congo, mais déjà ex-Congo Belge et ex-Etat Indépendant du Congo, ce danseur-chorégraphe vagabond a longtemps sillonné l’Afrique et l’Europe. Il revient aujourd’hui sur ses territoires d’enfance, à Obilo, petit village à 80 kilomètres de Kisangani où, avec sa sœur, il rejoignait son père autrefois. Il creuse sa mémoire pour y faire résonner les mots de Stuart Hall, d’Achille Mbembe, de Wole Soyinka… Seul en scène, cerné par la pénombre des maux de son histoire et les traces d’une Afrique magique, éternelle, Faustin Linyekula donne corps à sa quête d’identité.
